India suffered a major blow during the first ODI played in Vadodara. While bowling, Washington Sundar experienced sharp pain in his left rib area. Due to this injury, he could only bowl 5 overs and had to leave the field.
However, considering the team's needs, Sundar came out to bat at number 8 and scored 7 runs off 7 balls, but he looked quite uncomfortable. After a medical scan, it was confirmed that his injury was serious and he would not be able to participate in the remaining two matches of the New Zealand ODI series.
