Mustafizur Rahman has decided to play in the Pakistan Super League after being released by the Kolkata Knight Riders. KKR had bought him for ₹9.20 crore in the IPL 2026 auction, but following growing protests in India and directives from the BCCI, the franchise released the Bangladeshi fast bowler. It's worth noting that even if Mustafizur receives the highest salary in the PSL, it will still be less than half of the amount offered by KKR.
There was fierce competition to acquire Mustafizur Rahman in the IPL 2026 auction, which is why his price soared past ₹9 crore. Besides KKR, Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals also showed interest in buying him. Recently, protests were held in India against the killing of Hindu youths in Bangladesh. KKR and its owner, Shah Rukh Khan, faced criticism for buying the Bangladeshi player for the hefty sum of ₹9.20 crore.
Following growing protests, the BCCI instructed KKR to release Mustafizur. Subsequently, Bangladesh banned the broadcast of the IPL in their country. Mustafizur then registered his name for the Pakistan Super League 2026.

Unlike the IPL, the PSL does not have an auction; instead, it uses a draft system. Mustafizur Rahman could be drafted into the PSL's Platinum category, which is the league's highest category. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had bought him for more than three times that amount. It's worth noting that franchises can select a maximum of three Platinum players.
