India’s young cricket talent Vaibhav Suryavanshi has started the new year with a historic achievement. During India U-19’s tour of South Africa, Vaibhav made a world record and brought pride to Indian cricket.

India Beat South Africa Under Vaibhav’s Captaincy

In the first Youth ODI, India U-19 defeated South Africa U-19 by 25 runs (DLS method). This match was special not only because of the win, but also because Vaibhav achieved a major personal milestone.

Youngest Captain in Youth ODI History

As soon as he stepped onto the field, Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest captain in Youth ODI history.

  • Age: 15 years
  • Record Broken: Pakistan’s Ahmad Shehzad
  • Old Record: 19 years old

This record had stood for nearly 19 years, making Vaibhav’s achievement even more remarkable.

Vaibhav’s Batting Performance

Vaibhav did not score big with the bat in this match, but he played a short and steady knock:

  • Runs: 11
  • Balls: 12
  • Fours: 2

Even though his batting contribution was small, his leadership helped India secure the victory.

Why Vaibhav Was Given Captaincy

India’s regular U-19 captain Ayush Mhatre and vice-captain Vihan Malhotra were ruled out due to injuries. Because of this, the responsibility of leading the team was given to young Vaibhav - and he handled it confidently.

  • Bihar won the match by 397 runs

This innings made him one of the most talked-about young cricketers in India.
